Isaacman and Gillis were 700 kilometers above the surface when they emerged from the capsule into the open sky.
Billionaire Jared Isaacman has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first civilian to walk in space. His successful companions were three other tourists and adventurers. Four private individuals recently went into space through SpaceX, the space travel company owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
Isaac walked into space at 6:12 am on Thursday (September 12) local time in New York. Billionaire Isaacman and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis came out of the Dragon capsule orbiting the Earth in an elliptical orbit. The other two who took part in the raid remained inside the capsule. Isaacman and Gillis were 700 kilometers above the surface when they emerged from the capsule into the open sky.
He is the founder. The entire journey was funded by him. Earlier, he also financed the ‘Inspiration 4’ mission jointly with SpaceX in 2021.
Earlier, SpaceX’s Falcon-9 rocket launched the capsule carrying the explorers from Florida, USA. After completing the mission, the four explorers will start their journey towards Earth. This is the first time that a private spacewalk has taken place. The risky mission has always been carried out by government-trained astronauts before. This mission opened a new horizon in the commercial space industry.
This mission has tested advanced space suits and other technologies needed for possible life outside of Earth. Mission survivor Isaacman believes that future Mars travelers could benefit from space suits tested during their missions.
Overall, the Polaris Dawn mission’s spacewalk not only enhanced commercial space capabilities, but also paved the way for future space operations and advancements in space exploration technology.
