Saudi Arabia has licensed 1,860 residential buildings in Mecca for this year’s Hajj pilgrims. About 1.2 million pilgrims can stay in these buildings during the upcoming Hajj season.
The country started issuing visas for this year’s Hajj on Friday (March 1) local time. Visa issuance will end on April 29. Hajj pilgrims will start coming to Saudi Arabia for Hajj from May 9.
It is estimated that the number of residential buildings approved for the accommodation of pilgrims in Mecca will exceed 5,000. Because, the application for the license will be taken from the owners of the building till May 8.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has announced new rules around the Hajj season to be held in June. Minister of Hajj Affairs Tawfiq Al Rabiah said, “this time, the holy places of Saudi Arabia will not be allocated specific places based on the country”.
Last year, about two million Muslims from all over the world came to Mecca to perform Hajj. The highest number of pilgrims came to Mecca last year after the Corona pandemic. The country is expecting more people to come for Hajj this time.
