The United States has called on Israel to allow Muslims to pray at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem during the holy month of Ramadan.
This call was made by the United States on Wednesday.
A right-wing Israeli minister proposed barring Palestinians in the occupied West Bank from praying at Al-Aqsa. After that, such a call was made by the United States.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters, “As it relates to Al-Aqsa, we are calling on Israel to allow Muslims access to the Al-Aqsa compound during Ramadan, as in the past.”
Matthew Miller added, “It’s not just about giving people the religious freedom they deserve.” Rather, it is an issue that is also important for Israel’s security.
The holy month of Ramadan is going to start on March 10 or 11. Israel is evaluating how Muslims will be treated in Jerusalem at that time.
Last week, Israel’s Minister of National Security Affairs Itamar Ben-Gavir said West Bank Palestinians should not be allowed to enter Jerusalem to pray during Ramadan.
