Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya left Gujarat Titans for Mumbai Indians. This left the franchise empty of a captain. Gujarat, who were looking for a new captain, had two names in front of Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan. In the end, the team chose Indian opener Gill.
The 24-year-old Indian opener joined Gujarat in 2022. This is Gill’s first captaincy in senior level cricket. Gujarat’s Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki said, “Not only with the bat, we have seen him grow in leadership as well.” His contribution on the field has helped make Gujarat Titans an indomitable force.
Gujarat have played only two seasons on the IPL stage so far. Among them, the team became champions in their first season and runners-up in the second season. In those two matches, Gujarat scored the most points in the league.
Reacting to leading such a strong team, Gill said, ‘I am overwhelmed and proud to captain Gujarat Titans. I thank such a great team for trusting in my leadership. We’ve had two fantastic seasons. I am looking forward to playing exciting brand of cricket in the future.
Pandya’s IPL career started in 2015 for Mumbai Indians. After the 2021 season, the franchise released him and Gujarat bought him. Now on the last day of the ‘trading window’, Mumbai bought him again from Gujarat.
The five-time IPL champion team wrote in a statement, “Hardik’s return is a return to a family in Mumbai.” Where there are Rohit Sharma, Yashpreet Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan. He first came to Mumbai to raise prospects, then made his debut in the Indian team.’
