The 54th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh was celebrated with great pomp and ceremony in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The presence of His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the UAE, as the chief guest, added special significance to the celebration.
The event was held in the evening at the five-star Continental Hotel, with His Excellency Tareq Ahmed, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the UAE, presiding over the ceremony. High-ranking officials from the local administration of the United Arab Emirates, important dignitaries of the country, and a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis spontaneously participated in the event.

In his welcome address, Ambassador Tareq Ahmed said, “This is the first Independence Day being celebrated in the new Bangladesh after August 5th. For this reason, a great enthusiasm and excitement is being observed among our expatriate brothers and sisters.” He further stated, “I believe that all members of the Bangladesh community will further enhance the image of Bangladesh in the United Arab Emirates through their good work.”
In an interview, Ambassador Tareq Ahmed said, “The celebration of our Independence Day in the Emirates carries a special significance. The presence of the UAE government and ambassadors from other friendly countries here has multiplied our joy.”
On behalf of the UAE government, His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, conveyed warm greetings to the government and people of Bangladesh. He praised the long-standing friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
Ambassadors and diplomats from various friendly countries in Asia, Europe, America, and Africa, stationed in the UAE, also participated in the event. Their presence transformed the ceremony into a vibrant gathering of international friendship.

The significance of Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day was highlighted at the event, and discussions were held on the existing friendly relations and mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates in various sectors. The spontaneous participation of ambassadors from different countries made the event even more lively. A brief cultural program showcasing the culture and heritage of Bangladesh was organized, which captivated everyone present.
Finally, Ambassador Tareq Ahmed and Chief Guest Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh jointly cut a cake, marking the conclusion of the joyous celebration of Independence Day.
