On Thursday, Tel Aviv launched the deadliest airstrikes in Lebanon since the Gaza war began in October last year.
Israel launched massive airstrikes in southern Lebanon after Hezbollah counterattacked and threatened remote control attacks. Israel’s military said its air force hit hundreds of rocket launchers and other infrastructure in southern Lebanon in a two-hour operation. However, the casualties in this attack could not be confirmed immediately. In this situation, the fear of all-out war in the Middle East has increased. But some Western allies, including the United States, have called on Netanyahu’s forces to show restraint.
Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes on specific targets in Mahmudih, Qasr al-Arush and Birket Jabbur areas of Jejin city.
On Thursday, Tel Aviv launched the deadliest airstrikes in Lebanon since the Gaza war began in October last year.
Within hours of the incident, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant warned that Hezbollah would “pay a heavy price”. He said, the results of our military operations will continue.
Since the start of the Gaza war, Israel and the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah have continued to exchange regular airstrikes and rocket attacks. Israel has evacuated large numbers of people from its northern border with Lebanon due to Hezbollah attacks. Now the country wants to send them back to their own country. For this, the northern border should be secured. Israel seeks assurances from Hezbollah that it will not attack the region. But Lebanese armed groups say they will continue to attack Gaza until the war ends.
In this situation, on Tuesday and Wednesday, wireless communication devices, pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon and Syria exploded simultaneously. At least 37 people were killed and about 3000 injured in these blasts.
The Lebanese government and Hezbollah have accused Israel of planning the blast. However, Israel has not yet opened its mouth about these explosions.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah gave a speech two days after the blast. “The campaign against Israel will continue until the end of the war in Gaza,” he said, noting that Israel had violated “all limits” with the series of blasts.
Meanwhile, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre called on all sides to show restraint, saying a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas would reduce tensions in the region. But he also said that the US is “resolute” against any Iranian-backed threat. In a speech in Paris, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken urged Israel to show restraint. He added that the United States did not want to see any additional steps that would make a cease-fire agreement in Gaza more difficult. At the same time, another European ally, the UK, called on Tel Aviv to show restraint.
In the meantime, the relevant Lebanese authorities have completed preliminary investigations into the explosions on Tuesday and Wednesday. A preliminary investigation by the UN Security Council said explosives were planted in wireless communication devices before reaching Lebanon. These devices, including pagers and hand-held radios, were bombarded with electronic messages.
