A Palestinian teenager has set the record straight by generating electricity with the help of wind using readily available equipment. The 15-year-old Hussam Al Attar has already become known as the ‘Newton of Gaza’ to the world.
The ‘Newton of Gaza’ is now spreading light in Gaza, which has been reduced to rubble due to the Israeli attack.
Hussam al-Attar was a school student in Jabel Mukab in northern Gaza before the October 7 Hamas-Israel conflict. After the war started, Al Attar fled their home in Beit Lahiya area to Al-Nasr. Then they reached Khan Yunis on foot from there. They are now living in Rafah refugee camp on the border with Egypt.
Hussam al-Attar produced electricity on a small scale by harnessing the wind using a pocket dynamo and a tin fan. On why he made such an invention, he said, “I have two younger twin nephews.” They are very afraid of the dark. And their fear was even greater in this war-torn tent. I take this initiative to give them a little joy and light a little light to dispel their fear.
Hussam said, cold wind blows inside the tent at night. Then I have in my mind that I can use this wind. Then I made a generator using a pocket dynamo and a tin fan. With which I can light the light for my little nephews. Besides, I can give some warmth in cold weather.
He said, not only that, I am now making arrangements to light the tent people as much as possible. They gave me the title of Gaza Newton. My mother is most happy that I can do something for people.
“There are hundreds of innovative teenagers like me in Gaza. But no one pays attention to them, does not appreciate the work. We want to realize our dreams,’ he added.
The teenager also called on the Arab world and the international community to take effective measures to stop the war in Gaza immediately.
