According to the country’s state broadcaster NHK, after landing at Haneda Airport, the Japan Airlines passenger plane collided with a Japanese Coast Guard plane on the runway.
Video footage broadcast by NHK showed the Japan Airlines plane burst into flames shortly after colliding with the plane parked on the runway. At this time, flames and smoke can be seen coming out of the window of the plane.
According to media reports, Japan Airlines flight JAL-516, which caught fire, had taken off from Hokkaido Airport with 400 passengers on board. It crashed while landing at Haneda Airport.
It is Japan’s deadliest plane crash since 1985. At that time, a passenger plane crashed in Gunma region of the country, killing 520 passengers.
