Vladimir Putin has confirmed his candidacy for the 2024 Russian presidential election. He announced this decision at the awarding ceremony of Russia’s highest military medal to the fighters fighting in Ukraine.
A lieutenant named Artayum Choga. The colonel received the ‘Hero of Russia’ gold medal. While accepting the medal, he urged Putin to contest the election again. Later, this military official told reporters, “He (Putin) will compete.”
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said many people called on Putin to run in the election.
Russian presidential election will be held on March 17. The upper house of the Russian parliament announced the date of the presidential election last Thursday.
If elected, the 71-year-old Putin’s 24-year leadership tenure will extend another term. However, officially he spent eight years as the Prime Minister. Putin is now the longest-serving Russian ruler since former Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin.
