Turkey has suspended all commercial relations with Israel in protest over Turkey’s obstruction of aid operations in Gaza. Turkish authorities said on Saturday (May 4) that they will freeze trade with Israel as long as humanitarian aid is not allowed to continue in Gaza.
The current trade volume between the two countries is more than 73 thousand crores in Bangladeshi taka.
Earlier last month, Türkiye announced that they are reducing trade with Israel. At the time, Turkey alleged that its aircraft had gone to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Israel did not allow it.
The Ministry of Commerce of Turkey said that the import and export of all goods with Israel is stopped.
Criticizing the decision, Israel’s foreign minister wrote on social media, “This is how a dictator works.” He did not see the interests of Turkish people and businessmen. He also neglected international trade agreements. Israel will find alternatives. Import and export with other countries will increase.
Massive demonstrations in support of the Palestinians are taking place in Turkey. Türkiye has strongly condemned Israel’s military operation in Gaza. Erdogan has even called Israel a ‘terrorist state’.
