Two members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in an attack by separatists in Bishnupur district of India’s northeastern state of Manipur.
Two people were injured. Two more people were injured in the attack which took place late on Friday (April 26) local time. The injured are under treatment at the hospital.
The two CRPF personnel who lost their lives were serving with 128 Battalion, which was posted in Naranseina area. These two are sub-inspector N Sarkar and head constable Arup Saini. The two injured are Inspector Jadav Das and Constable Aftab Das.
A group of suspected Kuki militants fired at the CRPF outpost from the hilly part of Naranseina village towards the valley area. In response, the CRPF personnel also fired back. In the meantime, four members of the force were seriously injured in the bomb blast at the checkpoint. These four people were rushed to the hospital but two of them died. The other two are being treated.
According to high-ranking police sources, the attack took place six days before the first anniversary of the crisis in Manipur. Attacks by militants hiding in the mountains are expected to increase in the coming days.
