A magnitude 6.2 earthquake has hit the east coast of Taiwan. The country’s capital, Taipei, was also shaken by the earthquake that struck on Tuesday. However, no casualty was reported.
The country’s weather bureau said the epicenter of the earthquake was in the deep sea three and a half miles south of Japan’s Yonaguni Island off Taiwan’s Hualien County.
Taiwan is prone to earthquakes. Earlier in 2016, an earthquake in southern Taiwan killed more than a hundred people. In 1999, an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 killed more than 2,000 people.
