The sixth round of talks with the US scheduled for today have been canceled. However, Iran was ready for talks and wanted to give the US the necessary assurances.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Israel is strongly opposed to reaching a diplomatic solution with the US on the nuclear issue. He made the remarks at a meeting with diplomats in Tehran on Saturday local time.
Araghchi said, “Our position on not having nuclear weapons is very clear and strict. This is a matter of our belief. However, those who want to deny our right to pursue a nuclear program for peaceful purposes do not have that right.”
He said that the sixth round of talks with the US scheduled for today have been canceled. However, Iran was ready for talks and wanted to give the US the necessary assurances.
“The proposals that the US made in the last round were not fully acceptable to us. “We gave our response and were supposed to make a counter-offer today, which would have probably opened the door to a full agreement,” Araghchi said.
He added, “Israel clearly does not want any diplomatic progress with the United States with us. This is a very clear reality.”
According to analysts, Israel’s recent military activity and diplomatic pressure have played a major role in the stalled Iran-US nuclear talks.
