Turkey welcomed the announcement of the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. They described it as an important opportunity to de-escalate tensions and establish lasting peace in South Asia.
In a statement on Saturday (May 10) local time, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said that both sides were called on to engage in ‘direct and constructive dialogue’ using the ceasefire.
The Turkish statement said that ‘to ensure sustainable stability in South Asia, it is necessary to establish an effective dialogue mechanism to prevent any future escalation, including in the field of counter-terrorism.’

Following Trump’s announcement, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishra also confirmed the ceasefire.
According to the Pakistani military, at least 33 people have been killed and 62 injured in the recent clashes in the country. On the other hand, at least 21 people have been killed in cross-border shelling along the Indian-administered Kashmir border.
