Bangladesh’s ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has blamed the United States for her loss of power. He was ousted because he refused to hand over the island of St. Martin to the United States.
Sheikh Hasina said that the United States wanted St. Martin Island to strengthen its presence in the Bay of Bengal.
A statement said that Sheikh Hasina had prepared to resign to avoid further violence in the movement. At the same time, he urged the people not to fall into anyone’s trap.
The report of Economic Times also said that Sheikh Hasina expressed grief for the victims of the student movement. Besides, he did not give any speech insulting the students. The media misrepresented his statement.
According to Indian media reports, Sheikh Hasina told her party leaders and activists that she will return to the country soon after accepting defeat.
Sheikh Hasina also said, ‘I will return to the country soon, inshallah. Despite my defeat, the people of Bangladesh have won.
He said to the activists, those who are in the country should not lose heart. Awami League has never lost, it has stood up again and again.
Sheikh Hasina said that her speech has been distorted. She said, I want to say again to the students that I never called them ‘Rajakar’. My words have been distorted. Some groups took advantage by putting students in danger.
Incidentally, the students of various universities and colleges of the country joined the movement in the middle of last July for the reform of quota in government jobs. But Awami League did not give importance to this movement of students and tried to stop it politically. As a result, the situation becomes more complicated.
Later, the students expressed 9-point demands to the government. If the government did not pay attention to that, the students announced a one-point demand program for the fall of the government. In the end, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and fled to India on August 5, when the protest of the student population turned into a mass movement.
