55 Palestinians have been released from Israeli prisons. Among them is the director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza.
Last November, Israeli forces attacked Al-Shifa Hospital. Then the director of the hospital, Mohammad Abu Selmia, was arrested.
The Israeli army claims that this hospital has been used by Hamas for military purposes. They even demanded to open a tunnel inside the hospital complex. However, Abu Selmia and other activists have denied this accusation of Israel.
Nahed Abu Tayma, director of Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, said 55 Palestinian prisoners, including Abu Selmia, were released from Israeli prisons on Monday. All but five of them were taken to Nasser Hospital for medical examination. The remaining five were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah.
After being released from an Israeli prison, Abu Selmia said that Palestinian prisoners were mistreated by the Israeli authorities. They are subjected to physical and mental abuse every day.
Gaza’s health system has completely collapsed due to continuous Israeli attacks over the past 9 months. Most of the hospitals are closed. Besides, many hospital activities have been limited. As a result, the lives of Palestinian civilians injured by Israeli bombs are under threat.
