26 people have been killed in Indonesia’s West Sumatra province due to heavy rains that have lasted for 5 consecutive days and the resulting floods and landslides. At least 6 people are missing in this incident. The country’s disaster response.
Earlier, it started raining in various parts of West Sumatra from last Thursday (March 7). The incessant rains and the resulting floods and landslides have destroyed bridges, schools, at least 280 acres of crops and about 700 houses in different parts of the province. Along with that, at least 39,000 people have suffered damage and suffering.
The country’s Meteorological Department has said that there is no chance of improvement in the weather conditions for the time being, but there is a risk that the rain will continue for the next few days.
The central chief executive of BNPB arrived in Padang, the capital of West Sumatra, on Monday. There, he held an emergency meeting with the provincial officials of the office regarding the quick rescue of people from different areas and relief supplies.
Meanwhile, Abdul Malik, officer of the West Sumatra branch of the Disaster Management Committee, said that the work of sending tents, blankets, water purification medicine, food and cleaning materials to various areas is underway. He also said that relief has already reached many areas.
