Many more Russian soldiers were injured in this attack. On Wednesday, a missile attack took place at a Russian-controlled training center in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.
Video footage of the training camp shows many dead bodies lying on the spot. The attack happened hours before Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was due to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Later in the meeting with Putin, Russian military forces succeeded in some areas including that area of Donetsk. They recently discussed Russian troops taking control of the city of Avdivka from the Ukrainian military.
However, neither Russia nor Ukraine has officially commented on the attack near the village of Trudovsky in Donetsk.
Members of Russia’s 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade were waiting for Major General Oleg Moiseyev of the 29th Army Command of the Eastern Military Region, located in the Transbaikal region of Siberia.
According to a soldier who survived the attack, the commanders of the 36th Rifle Brigade forced the soldiers to stand in the open. Two missiles were fired at the troops by US-made Hymers missile launchers.
Videos posted on social media showed the bodies of dozens of soldiers lying at the scene after the attack. Two soldiers wounded in the attack said at least 60 people had died.
However, the authenticity of these videos of the attack has not yet been verified.
