A Saudia Airlines flight from Dhaka to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, made an emergency landing in the Pakistani port city of Karachi after a passenger fell ill.
On Tuesday (February 20), a passenger fell ill in mid-air shortly after the flight of Saudia Airlines took off from Dhaka. The plane later made an emergency landing at Karachi airport in Pakistan.
Saudia Airlines flight SV-805 departed from Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport to Riyadh at 3:57 am Bangladesh time on Tuesday. But a 44-year-old passenger named Abu Taher fell ill while in Indian airspace.
Saudia Airlines sources said the passenger developed high blood pressure and vomiting mid-flight. His physical condition began to deteriorate rapidly. At that time, considering the physical condition of the passenger, the pilot diverted the plane towards Mumbai and sought permission from the Mumbai Air Traffic Controller (ATC) for an emergency landing.
The Mumbai ATC asked for the nationality and other details of the sick passenger. The pilot was forced to divert the plane to Karachi, Pakistan after not getting permission to land immediately in Mumbai.
He sought permission for an emergency landing of the aircraft from the air traffic controller of Karachi from Pakistan’s airspace. Later, the Saudi-bound plane made an emergency landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport at 7:28 am.
Immediately after the plane landed, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) medical team took emergency measures at the airport. Airport doctors immediately examined and treated the patient.
Later the flight started again from Karachi to Riyadh.
