A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Pakistan’s Swat, Dir district and Neelum Valley and surrounding areas.
The earthquake was felt at 12:57 PM local time on Saturday (February 17). However, no casualty or damage was immediately reported.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), earthquake tremors were reported in various parts of Pakistan, including Swat, Dir, Neelum Valley and surrounding areas. Its magnitude was 4.9 on the Richter scale. The earthquake struck at a depth of 190 km from the surface.
The earthquake caused panic among the local residents especially in Neelam Valley, Sharda Sub-division and surrounding areas. After the tremors, residents of Neelum Valley came out of their homes and started reciting the Holy Quran.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department and other agencies are monitoring the situation and gathering detailed information on the tremors. However, no official warnings or advisories have been issued yet.
