Farmers are protesting across France against low wages and several other issues. On Monday, farmers brought hundreds of tractors to block the main roads leading to the capital, Paris.
They call this program ‘Paris blockade’. The farmers of Germany and Belgium also joined in solidarity with this movement. They are also blocking the main highway there with tractors. As a result, connectivity has been ‘broken’ across Europe.
A crossing point between Germany and France is closed after the Belgian youth farmers’ federation blockades the Namur highway. Besides, internal and international transport routes have also been closed.
On the other hand, farmers in Germany are blocking the road to the port area of Hamburg with tractors.
Farmers in France, Belgium and Germany say they are not being paid enough wages. Moreover, additional regulations to protect the environment are holding them back.
Farmers say their aim is to stop food supply to supermarkets. One angry farmer told the BBC, “We can’t do cheap farming…we need to have a system where we can make a living from the trade.”
Apart from protesting by blocking roads with tractors, farmers are also throwing agricultural waste at the door of government offices as part of the protest.
