To enrich the experience of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims to Makkah and Madinah, the Saudi government has allowed weddings to take place at the two holy places, Kaaba Sharif and Masjid al-Nabawi.
According to a report, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has taken this initiative so that marriage can be arranged in the holy Mecca and Medina.
Experts say this is a big opportunity for organizations to come up with ‘unique ideas’ in organizing weddings there, while preserving the sanctity of these two mosques.
A Saudi marriage official named Masoud Al Jabri said that there is religious consent in teaching marriage in mosques. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once taught the marriage of a colleague in the mosque.
Masud also said that many of the local people of Madinah now perform marriage ceremonies in Masjid Nawabi.
He said, Madina residents do this for various reasons. Many people in Medina traditionally invite all their relatives to the wedding. Most of the time the bride’s family cannot accommodate everyone in the house. As a result, marriage is taught by coming to the Prophet’s Mosque or Kaaba in the mosque.
Masud Al-Jabri said that many people believe that it is auspicious if marriage is taught in the mosque.
Those who come to perform marriage in Masjid Nabawi or Kaaba Sharif have to follow some rules and regulations, said the Saudi marriage official. He said, the attention of the worshipers cannot be lost by making loud noises. The sanctity of the mosques must be preserved and coffee, misti and other food should not be brought in large quantities.
