Pakistan’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has received permission to contest in the upcoming elections. His nomination was accepted by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
It is reported that no member of the commission objected to Nawaz’s candidature. As a result, Nawaz can participate in the upcoming general elections. He filed nominations seeking to contest from two constituencies. First his nomination was validated from Lahr seat. This time the Election Commission has accepted his nomination in Mansehra.
In 2017, the country’s Supreme Court banned Nawaz from contesting the election. After that, Nawaz was in exile outside the country. He was in London for the last four years.
Sharif appealed against the punishment after returning to the country in October this year. On December 12, the Islamabad High Court acquitted him. After that the indications of Nawaz Sharif’s candidacy in the election became strong.
Pakistan’s general election is scheduled to be held in February 2024. Nawaz filed nominations to contest from Lahore and Mansehra city centers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
