40-day mourning has been declared in the country after the death of Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah of Kuwait. Besides, government offices will be closed for 3 days. The activities of government departments will resume from next Wednesday (December 20).
Besides, the flag will be kept at half-mast in the country’s offices for the next 40 days during the mourning period.
In another announcement, the Royal Court of Kuwait gave details of the funeral and other formalities of late Amir Sheikh Nawaf. According to the announcement, Sheikh Nawaf’s funeral will be held at Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque on Sunday (December 17) at 9 am local time. After that, his burial will be completed. Only his family members will be present at that time.
The new Emir Sheikh Mishal and other members of the royal family will observe morning and afternoon mourning on Monday (December 18) and Tuesday (December 19).
Notably, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah passed away on Saturday (December 16) at the age of 86. Within hours of his death, his half-brother Mishal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah was named as the new emir. 83-year-old Michal was previously in charge of the country’s crown prince.
Sheikh Nawaf was sworn in in September 2020 following the death of his half-brother Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in the United States at the age of 91. Popular among the Al-Sabah family, the emir also has a reputation for modesty and simple living.
