All the members of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board were dismissed by the country’s Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe after the debacle in the World Cup. The Lankan court reinstated them within 24 hours of the incident.
But the end was not saved. Two days later, the government and opposition parties unanimously passed a motion to dismiss the board members.
On Thursday (November 9), the main opposition leader Sajith Premadasa introduced a bill titled ‘Withdrawal of corrupt SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket Board) management’. Later, the ruling party leader Nimal Siripala de Silva gave his assent to the proposed bill. The final resolution was then passed.
Later, Premadasa said that the aim of this proposal is to make people aware of the corruption at the administrative level of the Cricket Board and to protect Lankan cricket from the hands of the corrupt. Premadasa feels that collective action is necessary to save the game for passionate fans.
The bad performance of the Lankan cricketers in the World Cup has come under severe criticism from the board officials. Later Mohan de Silva stepped down from the post of secretary under criticism. Roshan Ranasinghe forced everyone on the board to resign the next day.
