FIFA had set a deadline of Tuesday (December 31) to bid to host the World Cup. Football Australia withdrew their bid on the final day of the deadline. As a result, the chances of Saudi Arabia, who are the favorites to host the 2034 World Cup, have become brighter.
Football Australia said in a statement: ‘We have looked at the opportunity to bid to host the FIFA World Cup and have taken everything into account and have decided not to bid for the competition to be held in 2034.’
FIFA has invited countries in Asia and Oceania to bid for the World Cup in different continents. The entire Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is supported by Saudi Arabia located in the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia’s ambition to host the 2034 World Cup is the latest step in its campaign to make the country one of the world’s sporting superpowers. Their neighbors Qatar hosted the World Cup for the first time in the Middle East last year.
FIFA, the highest governing body of football, announced the names of the host countries for the 2030 World Cup in a statement on October 4. The event will be held in Spain and Portugal in Europe, Morocco in Africa and Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay in South America.
Morocco, Spain and Portugal will jointly host the 2030 World Cup. And on the occasion of the centenary of the World Cup, there will be one match each in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
