Hind Rajab, who hid among the corpses of his relatives to escape the barbaric attack by the Israeli forces, called the emergency number of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to plead for his rescue.
“I’m so scared, please come,” were some of the last words six-year-old Hind Rajab said in a telephone call to rescuers after her family’s car came under fire in Gaza City
Responding to the girl’s call, two PRCS paramedics rushed with an ambulance to rescue her. But since then the whereabouts of the two rescue workers has not been found. Twelve days after the incident, on Saturday (February 10), the authorities of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said that the bodies of Shishu Hind and his five relatives and two Red Crescent workers were found at the scene.
On January 29, Hind Rajab, a six-year-old girl, was fleeing war-torn Gaza City to neighboring Tal al-Hawa with her uncle, aunt and three cousins. On the way, the vehicle carrying them came under attack from Israeli army tanks. Hind survived. The little boy then called the emergency number of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society while sitting in the car, pleading to save him. Says, ‘I am very afraid. Please come.’ When the phone line went dead, there was the sound of gunfire.
Two PRCS paramedics who responded to the call to rescue him were killed by the Israeli attack.
According to an audio conversation between Hind and an emergency call operator, Hind was hiding among the bodies of relatives in the car to escape Israeli forces at the time.
Paramedics from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society were able to reach the area on Saturday. The reason for not being able to go for so long was that he could not enter there due to the fierce war going on in that area. After they got there, they saw Hind’s black colored sedan car. Its windshield and dashboard were smashed to pieces. The vehicle had multiple bullet marks.
One of the rescue workers said that one of the six bodies inside the car was that of Hind. A few meters away from this car was another burnt car. It was upside down. The Red Crescent said the ambulance that was sent to rescue Hind was the wreckage of the ambulance.
