Oman Air, the national airline of the Middle Eastern country of Oman, has canceled flights to Bangladesh. Besides, this Omani airline has announced to reduce the number of flights and destinations to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka.
In a statement on Monday (January 29), Oman Air said it has canceled flight operations to Islamabad, Lahore, Colombo and Chittagong. However, the company said that Pakistan’s Sialkot city has been added to its flight management network.
The statement also said that the number of flights to certain destinations on Indian routes will also be reduced. However, flights will be increased to the two Indian destinations currently operating – Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram.
Earlier, in November last year, Oman’s SalamAir had announced the resumption of flights to five major Indian cities – Hyderabad, Calicut, Jaipur, Trivandrum and Lucknow. SalamAir stopped operations in these cities due to allocation restrictions related to flight rights in India.
Due to the short distance, the air routes operating between the Gulf countries and the Indian subcontinent are among the busiest in the world. Apart from this, a large number of South Asian expatriates are working in the countries of the Arabian Gulf region.
Oman Air said the three destinations will be operated on a seasonal basis. Depending on demand, passengers will be transported to Trabzon on the Black Sea coast of northeastern Turkey in the summer, Zurich in Switzerland in the winter, and Malé, the capital of the Maldives.
