Qatar has reached a new agreement with Israel and Hamas on the Gaza issue. Under this, medicine would be provided to Israelis held hostage by Hamas in exchange for providing medicine and humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The agreement was signed between representatives of both sides on Tuesday, January 16 local time, mediated by Qatar and France. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday that the agreement will provide humanitarian aid and medicine to the most affected and vulnerable areas of the Gaza Strip in exchange for the supply of essential medicines for Israeli prisoners.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar did not say anything about the type and amount of aid that will be provided to the Palestinians affected by the occupation of the occupied Gaza Strip.
It is understood that the medicine and aid will leave Doha on Wednesday and go to Egypt before being sent to Gaza. They will then cross the Rafah crossing to reach Gaza.
Earlier, the head of the crisis center of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Philippe Laliot, said that it was possible to reach this agreement after several weeks of negotiations. The United States welcomed the agreement. In a press conference held at the White House on Tuesday, US President Joe Biden’s national security spokesman John Kirby said in this regard, “We hope that this agreement will pave the way for the release of more hostages.”
By the way, Israel launched an attack on Gaza in retaliation for Hamas’ sudden attack on October 7. The Israeli army has taken the lives of more than 24 thousand people in Gaza in this aggression that lasted for 103 days. At least 60,000 Palestinians were injured.
Hamas released a total of 108 hostages during the seven days of a humanitarian pause declared from November 25 to December 1. The remaining 132 are still in their custody.
