A UN resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian Gaza Strip has been passed. The resolution was passed by an absolute majority in the UN General Assembly.
Mauritania and Egypt have called for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. 153 countries including Bangladesh and India voted in favor of the resolution.
However, 10 countries, including the United States and Israel, voted against it. And 23 countries abstained from voting.
The United Arab Emirates presented a resolution to the UN Security Council last Friday calling for an end to Israel’s ongoing barbaric attacks on the Palestinian Gaza Strip. The United States, a permanent member of the Security Council, vetoed the proposal.
Israel has been attacking Gaza for more than two months. As a result, more than 18,000 people were killed and 80% of the 2.3 million inhabitants of the besieged Palestinian Valley became refugees.
