Only the Palestinians will decide where they should and should not live. This decision is theirs alone.
The US is planning to permanently relocate 1 million Palestinians from the blockaded Gaza Strip to war-torn Libya. The Trump administration has already started working on this.
Israel is also being provided with updated information on this issue. However, it is not clear how many Palestinians will agree to leave Gaza if the plan is implemented.
It is said that the US is considering and reviewing the plan very seriously. The US has already concluded discussions with the Libyan government on the matter. However, it is said that the agreement on the decision to transfer the Palestinians has not yet reached the final stage.
It also said that the Trump administration will release billions of dollars in funds to Libya in exchange for the rehabilitation of the Palestinians, which the US seized more than a decade ago.
The report, citing three sources familiar with the plan, said Israel has been kept informed of the talks on the relocation of Palestinians to Libya and the agreement.
Administration officials have discussed free housing and possibly financial incentives to encourage Palestinians to leave Gaza for the North African country.
The sources claimed to have received strong evidence that talks with the Libyan government are ongoing.
However, there was no response from Israel or the two Libyan governments on the matter. The US State Department and the National Security Council have not commented on such a plan or agreement.
Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official, Bassem Naim, dismissed the reports of Palestinian resettlement in Libya as rumors.
He said Hamas had no knowledge of the plan. If the relocation plan is true, he would condemn it.
“The Palestinians are determined to establish their homeland, are deeply committed to it, and are ready to make any sacrifices to protect the future of their homeland, their families, and their children,” said Bassem Naim.
The Palestinians alone will decide where they should and should not live. It is their right to make that decision.
It is not yet clear where the one million Palestinians from Gaza could be resettled, with Libya, which has been plunged into chaos and division since the 2011 civil war that toppled and killed longtime dictator Muammar Gaddafi, largely in a state of chaos and division. The situation on the ground is unacceptable for such a plan, one official said.
