The country’s security forces are conducting an operation to catch illegal residents in Saudi Arabia. 17 thousand 616 illegal residents have been arrested in 7 days from August 15 to 21 in continuation of the nationwide inspection campaign conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Of those arrested, 11,220 violated residency laws, 4,216 violated border security laws, and 2,378 violated labor laws.
They were arrested as part of a joint security operation involving various security forces and government agencies.
Of those arrested, 883 were caught trying to cross the border into Saudi Arabia, of which 41 percent were Yemeni nationals, 58 percent Ethiopian and the remaining 1 percent nationals of other countries. In addition, 68 people were arrested while trying to leave Saudi Arabia illegally.
At the same time, authorities arrested 15 people on charges of transporting, sheltering and recruiting in violation of the law. Currently, 14 thousand 542 expatriates including 13 thousand 471 men, 1 thousand 71 women are in the legal process.
In addition, 5,926 violators have already been sent to their respective diplomatic missions for travel documents, 2,700 are completing the travel reservation process and 13,952 have been deported.
The Saudi Interior Ministry has warned that anyone who assists in the illegal entry, transportation or harboring of unauthorized persons in the country could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to one million Saudi riyals. Vehicles and property used in such activities will also be confiscated.
