According to the preliminary report of the United Nations Human Rights Commission, 650 people, including 32 children, were killed in the anti-discrimination student movement.
The information was revealed in a 10-page report published in Geneva on Friday (August 16). It said 400 people were killed between July 16 and August 4 and another 250 between August 5 and 6. Bangladeshi media and agitating movements have been used as sources in this data collection.
According to reports, the dead included protesters, pedestrians, journalists, and members of the security forces.
The report also states that there are serious and credible allegations of human rights violations against the security forces of Bangladesh.
In this situation, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has given 21 suggestions to restore peace in Bangladesh. These include taking punitive and criminal action against law enforcement agencies and initiating open dialogue to address social, economic, and political grievances, aimed at serving the interests of all the people of Bangladesh.
