Dubai has launched a monumental AED30 billion ($8.2 billion) initiative to develop an extensive rainwater drainage network, aiming to enhance the emirate’s infrastructure and support its burgeoning real estate sector. This project, led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, represents a significant investment in sustainable urban development.
The “Tasreef” project, described as the largest rainwater collection system in the region, will increase Dubai’s rainwater drainage capacity by 700 percent. By collecting over 20 million cubic meters of water per day, the network is designed to meet the city’s needs for the next century, covering all areas of Dubai and significantly surpassing the capabilities of existing infrastructure.
