A rescue team has already been dispatched to search. His body has not been recovered till now.
Anders was a member of the Apollo 8 mission in 1968. His companions on that lunar mission were Frank Borman and James Lavelle. They orbited the moon ten times but did not land on the moon. Then they successfully returned to earth.
Anders captured a picture of the bright blue Earth against the vast darkness of space. The surface of the Moon is visible in the foreground of Earthrise’s image.
An original version of his famous picture was sold at an auction in Copenhagen in 2022 for €11,800.
