Six people were killed in a suicide bomb attack on a convoy in Pakistan. Five Chinese nationals and their local driver were among the dead.
The incident took place on Tuesday in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This news was reported according to the information of the Regional Police Chief and a Station House Officer (SHO).
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Mohammad Ali Gandapur confirmed the death of five Chinese nationals and their driver. The provincial police reached the spot and started relief operations. He said that the rest of the people in the convoy were saved.
It is said that the construction of hydropower plants and dams is going on in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Most of the people working there are foreigners. A convoy of Chinese engineers was heading towards Islamabad from that dam on Tuesday. An explosive-laden vehicle drove into the convoy near Besham.
China has a large investment in infrastructure development in Pakistan. Beijing is also helping to build roads and dams. Although Chinese citizens have been repeatedly attacked in Pakistan. In 2021, 13 people died in a similar explosion. 9 of them were Chinese nationals. Workers were crammed into buses on their way to work at a dam construction site in northwest Pakistan. The explosion was targeted at that bus.
