Vladimir Putin has been registered as a candidate for the upcoming presidential election in Russia. The Central Election Commission of the country gave this information on Monday (January 29). This election will be held from 15 to 17 March.
In this election, winning the presidency again for a six-year term is somewhat certain. Putin will set a new record by completing another six-year term as Russian president. In that case, he would be Russia’s longest-serving ruler since the 18th century. Because Putin has been in power in Russia since 2000 as president or prime minister.
Meanwhile, in February 2022, Russia launched a ‘special military operation’ in neighboring Ukraine. This Russian campaign is still going on. However, Russia has not benefited much from the last two years of war. However, counter-attacks are being carried out with Ukraine. In such a context, the presidential election is going to be held there. And 71-year-old Putin is participating in the election.
He has maintained tight control over Russia’s political system for the past 24 years in power. Most of the critics who might have challenged him ended up in jail or abroad. Also, most of the independent media are banned in the country. Those running against Putin in this year’s election must collect the signatures of the required number of supporters by next Wednesday (January 31).
