The country’s immigration police arrested 561 immigrants including 205 Bangladeshis during a special operation in Malaysia. They are citizens of Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Cambodia, Sierra Leone and Cameroon. All are under 55 years of age.
On Friday (January 19), they were arrested in a raid in Tasik Panchapuri Baiduri area of Bandar Malaysia.
It is learned that the operation, which started at 11pm on Friday, was led by Director General of Immigration Dato’ Ruslin Bin Jusoh.
Malaysia Immigration investigated the papers of 752 people following public complaints about illegal immigrants living in residential areas. Then 561 people were arrested.
455 officials of various ranks of immigration participated in this campaign. They were assisted by 60 officers of the General Movement Force (PGA), 12 officers of the National Registration Department (JPN) and five members of the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM).
Present during the operation were Immigration Director General (Operations) Tuan Jafri Bin Mbok Taha, Immigration Deputy Director (Control) Datu Ken Anak Leben, Enforcement Division Director Tuan Mohd Jasmi Bin Mohd Zuahir, Selangor State Immigration Director Tuan Khairul Aminus Bin Kamaruddin and Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory. State Director of Immigration Tuan Wan Mohamad Soupi bin Wan Yusuf.
The charges brought against the detainees include having no identity cards, overstaying and breaching the Immigration Act 1959/63. They have been detained at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot for further investigation and action.
