Pakistan’s High Court has suspended the ban imposed on Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from using the bat symbol in the upcoming National Assembly elections.
On Tuesday (December 26), a two-member bench of the High Court stayed the ban. Which is a legal victory for PTI before the elections.
Last week, the commission banned PTI from using the bat symbol. Besides, the commission also rejected the party’s own election for the election of new leaders.
Judge Hayat Miakhel of Peshawar High Court suspended this order of the Election Commission.
PTI’s newly elected chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan welcomed the verdict, saying it was a victory for justice. We hope that in the final judgment the court will cancel the order of the Election Commission.
During the hearing, PTI Counsel Barrister Ali Zafar told the court that when a party informs the Election Commission of the details of its internal election (leadership election) results, the Commission issues a certificate and publishes it on its website. But this time it is not yet published on the website.
After the Election Commission rejected the results of the election of new leaders and refused to allocate symbols, there were fears that the PTI would not be allowed to participate in the upcoming elections. However, the court has removed that fear for now.
