Bangladesh defeated England in 2016 and Australia in 2017 in Tests at home. Then there was the experience of losing to a big team last year when they beat New Zealand at Mt Manganui. This is the first time since 2017 that Bangladesh has won a Test at home against a major team.
Bangladesh set New Zealand a target of 332 runs at the end of the second innings. The second innings of the Kiwis ended on 181 runs after losing the ball in front of the spinners. Taijul Islam took 6 wickets. As a result, Tigers won by 150 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 310 runs in the first innings after winning the toss and batting. Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored the maximum 86 runs for the Tigers in that innings. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Muminul Haque scored 37 runs. In the end, the wicket-keeper batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan played an innings of 29 runs.
In response, the first innings of the visitors stopped at 317 runs ahead of Bangladesh by 7 runs. Kane Williamson played an innings of 104 runs. Darryl Mitchell scored 41 runs. Glenn Phillips played an innings of 42 runs. Tim Southee added 35 runs to the scoreboard of the Kiwis at the end.
Bangladesh scored 338 runs relying on captain Nazmul Hossain Shantar’s great century to bat in the second innings. He made 105 runs off 198 balls. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehdi Hasan Miraj scored fifty. Mushfiq scored 67 runs off 116 balls. Mirage was unbeaten with 50 runs. Besides, experienced Muminul Haque played an innings of 40 runs.
New Zealand were bowled out for 181 runs in the second game with a target of 332 runs. Darryl Mitchell was the only fifty for the Kiwis. This Kiwi batsman played an innings of 58 runs. Tim Southee scored 34 runs at the end. Devon Conway and Ish Sodhi scored 22 runs each.
Bangladesh scored 648 runs in two innings. On the other hand, the Kiwis scored 498 runs in two innings. As a result, the Tigers won by 150 runs.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam took 10 wickets (4+6) in two innings for Bangladesh. Muminul Haque took 3 wickets in the first innings. However, he did not get any wicket in the second innings.
