Following an attack by Myanmar armed groups on a Chinese cargo truck, the country’s military will begin military exercises along the Sino-Myanmar border from Saturday (Nov 25). This information was confirmed by citing a post on the social media of the Chinese military.
Armed groups in Myanmar attacked a truck carrying Chinese goods on the same day as Chinese officials met with state officials in Myanmar’s capital over threats to the security of Chinese installations along the border. As a result of this, China’s People’s Liberation Army will carry out various exercises including border sealing and fire strikes. However, the statement did not mention the time of the exercise.
Myanmar and Chinese media reported that Chinese Ambassador Chen Hai met with Than Sui, Foreign Minister of Myanmar’s military junta government on Thursday. Top army officers were present at this time.
China has supported Myanmar’s military junta since ousting the democratically elected government in 2021. Since then, Myanmar’s military junta government has been the victim of such a large-scale attack for the first time. So far, the Myanmar military has reportedly lost control of several towns and military outposts along the northeastern border and elsewhere.
However, the relationship between the two countries has been complicated for a long time due to the long-standing violence on the Chinese border in the northeastern part of Myanmar. These regions often lack central government control.
