Humanitarian, widow and divorcee permits added to UAE’s residency system
Dubai The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has announced a series of amendments and additions to entry visa regulations, effective from Monday, September 29. The updated system introduces new visa categories aimed at supporting innovation, tourism, humanitarian needs, and diverse professional sectors.
According to the ICP, the following key changes have been introduced
- Specialist Visit Visas Four new visit visa categories have been created for professionals in artificial intelligence, entertainment, events, cruise ships, and leisure boats.
- Humanitarian Residence Permit A one-year humanitarian residence permit will be issued, extendable upon the Authority’s approval under defined conditions.
- Widow and Divorcee Residence Permit:** Foreign widows or divorcees may now obtain a one-year residence permit, renewable for an additional year, subject to specific conditions.
- Family and Friends Visit Visa A new visa allows sponsorship of friends or relatives up to the third degree, based on the sponsor’s income.
- Business Exploration Visa Applicants must demonstrate financial solvency, ownership of a share in an existing overseas company, or verified professional practice to qualify.
- Truck Driver Visa:** This visa requires sponsorship, along with health and financial guarantees.
- Clear Stay Durations Detailed schedules have been set to define the authorised duration of stay for each visa type, along with conditions for renewal or extension.
The ICP stated that the reforms are designed to enhance the UAE’s visa framework, making it more flexible and aligned with the country’s economic, social, and humanitarian priorities. The new categories are expected to attract global talent, support growing industries, and provide greater stability for families and individuals.
