The couple was arrested while trying to sell cocaine to an undercover agent during a sting operation.
The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced two Arab nationals to life in prison after they were found guilty of drug trafficking. The couple was arrested while trying to sell cocaine to an undercover agent during a sting operation conducted by Dubai Police.
The Dubai Police’s General Department of Narcotics Control received credible intelligence that one of the defendants was in possession of illegal drugs and intended to sell them. After thorough monitoring and verification of the information, officers obtained a warrant from the Public Prosecution and set up a sting to capture the suspects involved in the incident.
The operation was carried out after anti-narcotics officers documented the identified money and coordinated with a source who identified himself as the buyer. The main suspect arrived at the agreed location on a motorbike with his accomplice, who had prepared the area for surveillance.
The police team entered the area as soon as the first suspect handed over the cocaine in exchange for cash. Officers detained the seller, while the second suspect tried to flee the scene.
The arrested person admitted that he knew the accomplice, confirming that they had jointly planned to sell the cocaine for 700 dirhams. He admitted to the sale and said that the other person was with him. The suspect also admitted to wasting police money during his arrest and refused to provide a sample for drug testing.
The second suspect was later tracked down and arrested. A search of their residence later revealed 32 narcotic pills and a large quantity of crystal meth, which they allegedly kept for personal use.
A Dubai Police officer testified that the team followed all legal procedures, with one officer posing as the buyer. The meeting place was arranged and the suspects arrived about 40 minutes later. The second defendant was deliberately standing at a distance, looking alert and scanning the area.
Within minutes of completing the drug transaction, officers entered and arrested the first suspect. He tried to escape and threw the money on the ground, but was quickly apprehended. He later identified his accomplice from a photo and revealed that he received a share of the profits from each sale. When the police raided their residence, the other individuals were found intoxicated.
During the court proceedings, the defendants argued that the investigation lacked credibility and that it was based on insufficient evidence. However, the court dismissed their claim, stating that the arresting officers had acted within their legal authority. It added that it was satisfied with the weight of the evidence presented, noting that the defendants’ denials were merely an attempt to evade responsibility.
