Demonstrators carrying posters of Nasrallah and chanting “Death to America” marched towards the US consulate.
Citizens of the country protested in Pakistan against the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon. This program was celebrated in the city of Karachi on Sunday. The protest was stopped by the police when they wanted to go to the US consulate, and at one point they clashed with the police.
Demonstrators marched towards the US consulate carrying posters of Nasrallah and chanting “Death to America”. At one point, when the police stopped the protesters, they threw stones at the police. At least seven police officers were injured in stone pelting by protesters and are undergoing treatment in hospital.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Asad Raza said police were forced to use baton charges and tear gas to disperse the protesters. The official also said that the police will file a case against the perpetrators of violence in this incident.
The mainly pro-Iranian Shia religious political party Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen organized the rally in Pakistan’s most populous city. About three thousand people participated there.
