Many patients use the same needle five to six times. This can increase the chances of infection manifold
People with diabetes have regular diabetes tests to measure blood sugar levels. But it is not always possible to get tested by experienced hands or by going to a hospital.
So many people measure at home with a machine. However, diabetes should be checked with caution in some areas:
1) Wash your hands with soap every time before using the diabetes meter. After that, wipe the hand and take the first drop of blood. If something sticks to the hand, the result can be wrong.
2) Many patients use the same needle five to six times. This can increase the chances of infection manifold.
3) Careful maintenance of the machine is also required. Buying a good quality instrument, checking its measurement accuracy periodically, taking care of the battery, and ‘resetting’ the instrument before each use should be considered. Do not place the device in a very cold place. Also take care that the heat of the sun does not fall on the device.
4) Blood test by pricking the needle causes considerable pain. Many people test the blood by sticking a needle in the tip of their finger. In that case the pain is more. According to experts, testing on one side of the finger reduces the pain slightly. Test on different fingers instead of testing on the same finger every day.
5) It is very important to write down the results of each day in one place. By looking at that list, the doctor can understand whether the medicine is working in your body or not. Apart from this, you can also know from this list which foods increase your blood sugar level.
6) Blood test should not be done only in the morning on an empty stomach or two hours after a meal. You also need to know your blood sugar levels at different times of the day.
