The Arakan Army (AA), a rebel group in the region, has claimed to have taken control of Myanmar’s Rakhine state after defeating the junta forces. In a statement, the Arakan Army said,
The Rakhine have established control over 15 of the state’s 17 townships, and in the process have captured 142 military bases from the junta. Apart from this, they have also taken control of Paletwar in the state of China.
Not only in Rakhine, anti-junta rebel groups are gaining ground against the junta forces across Myanmar. A trading center in Shan province has been seized by ethnic minority fighters fighting junta forces. The minority fighters made the announcement last Saturday after China promised to mediate a temporary ceasefire a few days ago.
Clashes have erupted across Myanmar’s northern Shan State since the Arakan Army (AA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and Taang National Liberation Army (TNLA) launched a joint offensive in late October.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the state-run TV channel MRTV last Friday, Brigadier General Za Min Tun, the spokesperson of the Myanmar army, said that the war is going on around Namshan. Brigadier General Tar Von Kyaw says Myanmar troops have also lost the 105-mile trade zone. It used to be the main trade route of Myanmar’s Shan State on the border with China.
The three-party coalition says it has captured a total of 422 bases and seven towns from the Myanmar army since October 27.
