The number of homeless people in London, United Kingdom is increasing every year, it is known that 167,000 citizens will celebrate Christmas in London alone. Of these, 82,000 are children.
According to a report by the charity Shelter, 167,000 people are homeless in London this winter.
Among them, 82,000 are children. Among London’s 12 councils, Newham Council alone has 17,200 homeless people. Westminster Council has 8,000 and Hackney Council has 7,900.
The shelter’s executive director Paulinet said emergency housing is now out of control. Social housing is underinvested in sustainability. The government has allowed some families of the homeless to stay in damp, dirty B&Bs and hotel rooms, which is a cause for concern. Children are getting hurt and citizens are getting sick.
16,700 citizens are not on the Christmas list this coming Christmas. On one particular day in the year they will stay in the hotel room or at the door of the building, on the street and the Konkan winter will freeze them. Newham Council says it is working hard to reduce homelessness.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Leveling Up Housing said £2 billion had already been spent to ensure every citizen needed a safe place to live. All measures are being taken to reduce homelessness.
