New York-based human rights watchdog Human Rights Watch (HRW) has warned that the US risks being ‘complicated in war crimes’ by vetoing a ceasefire proposal in besieged and devastated Gaza.
According to the report, HRW’s UN Director Louis Shakhbono said the country was at risk of being ‘engaged in war crimes’ after the US vetoed a UN Security Council ceasefire resolution in Gaza.
He said, ‘The United States is complicit in atrocities by continuously providing arms and diplomatic support to Israel. They are punishing all Palestinians in Gaza.’
HRW’s UN Director Shakhbono also said, “According to international law, all civilians must be protected.” Besides, all hostages must be released.’
Louis Shakbonow commented that the world’s most powerful country vetoed a Gaza ceasefire proposal in the Security Council despite the United States itself urging Israel and Palestinian armed groups to avoid conflict.
