Major Abdullah Hamad Al Shamsi, head of Dubai Police’s Council for Empowering People of Determination, announced the completion of their plan to prepare and qualify 40 Dubai Police buildings to be 100% accessible for people of determination, adhering to the standards of the Dubai Universal Design Code and its specific audit lists.
He pointed out that 16 of these buildings have already received the “Wosool” seal from Dubai Municipality, having met all the Dubai Universal Design Code criteria. At the same time, the council has applied for accreditation for the remaining buildings.
Al Shamsi further explained that since 2017, the council, in partnership with the General Department of Logistics Support, has been making Dubai Police’s buildings and facilities friendly to people of determination.
“The initiative, completed in 2023, has ensured that all services and facilities in these 40 buildings are accessible according to the special audit lists and in line with the requirements of the Dubai Universal Design Code, with the 16 certified buildings achieving an average assessment index of 93%,” he explained.
Al Shamsi also noted the training of 374 employees from the service front desks and customer happiness staff in these buildings, enabling and instructing them on how to interact with people of determination.
“This is part of the council’s ongoing efforts to provide premium services and enhance happiness for all community members,” he confirmed.
Al Shamsi explained that Dubai Police has worked on making all its facilities accessible for people of determination, including parking spaces, ground paths for the visually impaired “Tactiles”, “Braille” signages for the visually impaired, as well as the modifying lifts and restrooms for all categories, reception desks for the mobility and hearing impaired, sign language interpreters for effective
communication around the clock, and the “Labbeh” service, which enables people of determination to communicate with customer happiness officers via video chat using an intercom device without the need to leave their vehicles.
