Former US President Barack Obama called for a neutral perspective on the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Criticizing the way this war has been portrayed on social media, Obama said, ‘Neither side is innocent.’
In an interview, Obama said that the October 7 attack by Hamas against Israel was “terrible”, but what is being done against the Palestinians now is “out of tolerance”.
In an interview for the Pod Save America podcast, Obama said, ‘In order to take any constructive action, we must first acknowledge that there is a complex situation going on here and that it is not as simple as it looks from the outside. What Hamas has done is terrible and there is no justification behind it. But at the same time it is also true that what is going on against the Palestinians now and the way their land has been acquired in the past, is beyond tolerance.’
“But it’s also true that many Palestinians are dying in Gaza who have nothing to do with Hamas,” added Obama.
Before becoming president, Obama made ambitious promises to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, he was not able to do this even though he was in the position of president for two terms.
The former US leader said, ‘You can pretend to tell the truth, you can tell the one-sided truth, and in some cases you can claim innocence. But this will not solve the problem.’
“And if you want to solve this problem, you have to accept and accept the whole truth, that nobody is innocent and that we have all played a (silent) part in this conflict,” added Obama.
